Mateusz Zechowski enjoys freelancing in the Connecticut and New York areas and has collaborated with several orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Yale University Ensembles and Connecticut Virtuosi. Outside of his orchestral and chamber work, Mr. Zechowski has also performed as a soloist on numerous occasions. In 1998, Mr. Zechowski and members of the North Carolina School of the Arts Graduate Wind Quintet performed Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in Berlin, Germany. He has also appeared as a soloist on two occasions with Deutsches Kammerorchester performing J.C. Bach’s Concertino for Oboe and Bassoon at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin, and Martinu’s Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra at the Studio Koncertowe Polskiego Radia (S-1) in Warsaw. In 1991, Mr. Zechowski was a winner of the National Woodwind Contest in Poland. He gained further recognition in 1996 as a member of the Chopin Music Academy Woodwind Quintet winning first prize in the National Chamber Music Competition. Mr. Zechowski has held a position as principal oboist with the Teatr Muzyczny “Roma” Orchestra in Warsaw and has performed with various chamber orchestras in Poland, including the Chamber Opera Orchestra and the Polish Radio Orchestra.

In
1997, Mr. Zechowski graduated with distincition from the Fryderyk Chopin Music
Academy in Warsaw where he was a student of Prof. Stanislaw Malikowski and then
began his work on a master’s degree at the North Carolina School of the
Arts where he was awarded an International Student Program Scholarship as a
student of John Ellis. In spring of 2002, Mr. Zechowski received an Artist Diploma
Degree in Oboe Performance from Yale University where he was a student of Richard
Killmer. Upon graduation, Mr. Zechowski made his home in New Haven, CT, where
he lives with his wife Jenna-Claire and son Benedykt.
